"Karnataka, a leading player in Biotechnology space in the country with close to 200 organisations, has been attracting both National and Global investments to the sector. Since the announcement of Millennium Biotech Policy I by the state government in early 2000, the state has attracted Billions of Dollars in Investments to the Biotechnology Sector and related areas. At the same time the Biotechnology Industry in the state has generated exports worth US$ 800 million last year. To give further impetus to growth of the industry, Karnataka has launched many initiatives such as Biotech Finishing Schools to provide quality Human Resources. Karnataka is also setting up India' s largest biotechnology cluster, âBangalore Helix,â focused on providing world class Infrastructure to the Biotech companies and has set up a US$10.4 million Bio Venture Fund for incubating start-ups in high-technology areas. The state has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Scottish Development International (SDI) and Georgia Department of Economic Development through its arm Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS) to promote and encourage investment & collaboration opportunities between industry and academic communities. The state has also signed MoU with Israel for cooperation in industrial and technological research and development. All these developments have attracted companies from every segment of Biotechnology to Bangalore.
